Pakistan's Potatos

Potato Exporters Pakistan
Pakistan has exported 75,000 tons of potatoes. Pakistan is expected to harvest around three million tons of potato this season as against 2.3 million tons last year and after meeting domestic demand of around 1.5 million tons, a surplus of around 1.5 million tons will be available for export.
[Potato]Over the years, potato has become an important crop for both farmers and consumers in Pakistan. It is the fourth most important crop by volume of production. It is high yielding, having a high nutritive value and gives high returns to farmers. Pakistan is self-sufficient in potatoes for household consumption and relies for more than 99% on locally produced seed potatoes.

Many problems, like diseases and pests, became more hazardous and a large number of farmers are lacking knowledge of pests and disease control, land preparation and irrigation, fertilizer application, poor post-harvest handling, including transport and storage practices, causes unnecessary damage and losses and reduction of consumption quality.

Okara, Sahiwal, Kasur, Sialkot, Sheikhupura, Jhang, Lahore, Narowal, Pakpattan, Gujranwala, Toba Tek Singh and Khanewal in the Punjab, Nowshera, Dir and Mansehra in the NWFP and Pishin, Killa Saifulla and Kalat in Balochistan are important potato growing districts.
